No. 20 Chargers Men’s Soccer Starts Year With 8-0 Victory

BETTENDORF, Iowa — The 20 th-ranked Carl Sandburg College men’s soccer team opened its season in emphatic fashion Tuesday afternoon, posting an 8-0 victory at Scott.

The Chargers were led by two goals and an assist each from freshman Oliver Hawkins (Paddock Wood, England/Mascalls Academy) and sophomore Guylberson Camille (Key West, Fla./Key West).

Sandburg (1-0) took a 3-0 lead into halftime, getting two goals in the first 12 minutes from Hawkins, who then assisted on Neemias Moreira’s (Uberlandia, Brazil/EE Messias Pedreiro) in the 23 rd minute.

The Chargers struck for four more tallies in the opening 14 minutes of the second half. Camille netted both of his goals during that stretch, and Pedronel Herrera (Cali, Colombia/Colegio Claret) and Older Geneus (Orlando, Fla./Evans) also scored for Sandburg. Freshman Stenson Armand (Ocoee, Fla./Ocoee) rounded out the scoring with a goal in the 88 th minute.

Freshman keeper Benjamin Hilton (West Sussex, England/Crawley Town Academy) stopped both shots on goal he faced in keeping a clean sheet. Sandburg outshot the Eagles by a 23-2 margin.
